2019 RVA Environmental Film Festival Celebrates Virginia Filmmakers!
For immediate release 1/28/19
Richmond, VA. The Ninth Annual RVA Environmental Film Festival (RVA EFF) celebrates its commitment to independent, Virginia filmmaking again this year as part of this February’s RVA EFF 10-day event. The mission of the RVA EFF is to raise awareness of environmental issues relative to all residents of our planet and central Virginians in particular.
The winning entry for the RVA EFF Virginia Film Contest is “The Legacy of Gilbert Klingel: Man of Steel” by Dave Miller, a longtime filmmaker and producer based in Aylett, VA. Miller will receive the $1000 grand prize and is no stranger to the RVA EFF or the Virginia Contest, having won a previous runner-up prize in 2015 for his film “Stripers: The Quest For The Bite”.
“The Legacy of Gilbert Klingel: Man of Steel”, is a bio-pic documentary about a science hero whose story really should be more well-known here in the Commonwealth. A silent and meditative piece on the Rivanna River – “A Portrait In Water” – is perhaps inspired by Searls’ Executive Director position at Charlottesville’s Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center. In contrast, “Southern Sustainability” is an upbeat film about a surprising local start-up company, TemperPack, which wants to revolutionize eco-packaging. These winning films will be screened at the Byrd Theater on Sunday, February 10 beginning at 3 p.m.
The RVA EFF Committee is very happy and grateful to announce our newest Virginia Film Contest sponsor, the Secret Sandwich Society restaurants (Richmond and WV). This eateries are environmentally-friendly, 100% wind-powered, and plastic straw-free.
Long-time and faithful RVA EFF major sponsor, the Sierra Club Falls of the James Group generously donated additional money for runner up prizes.
This year’s other major sponsors are Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Science Matters and the Community Idea Stations, the Science Museum of Virginia, and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
