Sea Scout Weekender

On the water for good sailing in Milford Haven and Hills Bay

Four enthusiastic scouts came together and made a great participation team in handling the IntrigueMorning swimming at the Mathews Yacht Club got us some swimming lessons and two scouts made Apprentice grade.

We returned to Edwards Creek and with the help of Bill Elwang, Hobie Cat Specialist extraordinaire, who showed us how to rig the cat and launch her into the creek. Tough work in the afternoon heat, but everyone pitched in to get the job done including First Mate Tom Edwards.

We took the Intrigue out to do some fishing, no luck, but beat the thunderstorm back to the dock and back to camp… well , in this case the RV works better to keep you dry.

Dinner after the storm and a final try for the fish, caught a croaker about the same size as the water moccasin that we observed at Tom’s place.

Sunday, up early , good breakfast and went down to the dock and sailed the hobie in light winds, we haven’t seen her potential yet.

We boarded the Intrigue and motored back to the Yacht Club.
Lots of fun and lots of learning, a great weekend.

Thanks to Susan Bonner, adult leader for her participation as medical  and provisioning. The scouts came up with a date for the next sailing adventure, July 20th.

Stay tuned.
