Freya, a 30’ full keel sloop, was the first boat built by Gilbert Klingel in 1953 at his boatyard on Gwynn’s Island, VA. After a return trip from Florida in 2017, she now resides as an educational vessel at the Mathews Maritime Foundation Gwynn’s Island Boat Shop.
Freya is currently in line for some structural work – to rebuild the cabin trunk and further smaller repairs, mostly on the deck and cockpit including the diesel engine. We’re hoping that there are folks, with or without experience, to participate in her renovation, as well as, sailing trips to other museums in the Chesapeake Bay. The mysteries of these boats built in the 50’s is fascinating. Please join us in the discovery!
We would greatly appreciate your donation to the Freya project.
